What Is Prompting?

Prompting, in the context of interacting with an Ai model like ChatGPT, refers to the process of providing an input or a cue to the Ai that guides its response. Prompting is basically telling the Ai what to do. When I say “the Ai” I am reffering to ChatGPT in this case. The prompt can be in the form of a question, a statement, a request, or any other type of instruction that tells the Ai what kind of information or answer you're looking for.

I learned that with ChatGPT you need to prompt it by reminding it of what it knows (which is the entire internet) and by giving it some confidence. This will help you to get a much better response back.

For example, instead of saying to ChatGPT, "Write a short story about a dragon who loves to bake cookies", say “You are an award-winning children’s book author. You have studied the entire internet and know everything there is to know about writing a highly engaging children’s book. Write a short story about a dragon who loves to bake cookies.” This second prompt will give you a much better response back.

In general, the more specific and clear your prompt, the more useful and accurate ChatGPT’s (the Ai) response will be. If you have a particular question or topic in mind, make sure to express it clearly. For example, instead of asking, "Tell me about dogs," you could ask, "What are the unique characteristics of Border Collie dogs?"

So now that we know what prompting is let’s dive in to these 5 ChatGPT induced activities below.
