🤓 Your AI Assitant In The Kitchen
Plus: Video on how to take a picture of your fridge and send it to ChatGPT for meal ideas!
Parental Units! Welcome to this week’s edition of Daddy AI, where we help you integrate AI into your daily lives. This week, we're diving into how AI can be your assistant in the kitchen, saving you time, reducing food waste, and even helping you whip up quick meals with whatever ingredients you have on hand. If you’ve ever stood in front of your fridge or freezer and thought, “What can I make with all this stuff?” Then this one’s for you.
AI in the Kitchen: What’s the Deal?
Artificial Intelligence can assist you in meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking. Imagine having a virtual sous-chef who helps you figure out recipes based on the ingredients you already have, suggests new dishes, and even enables you to prep for the week ahead. That’s where tools like ChatGPT come in handy.
This week, I’ll show you how I used AI to help me make dinner using only what’s in my fridge and freezer. I even included a video where I show you exactly how I took pictures of what I had on hand, uploaded them to ChatGPT, and received meal suggestions based on the ingredients I had (spoiler: salmon was the star!).
Now, let’s get into the nuts and bolts of how you can do this at home.
I am going to go over 5 ways you can use AI in the kitchen to help make your live easier.
1: Meet Your AI Sous-Chef
Before we get to the fridge part, let’s start simple. First, get familiar with ChatGPT or your favorite AI assistant that can interpret natural language. You’ll want to have your device (phone, tablet, or laptop) handy when you're cooking or meal planning. I personally recommend being able to access ChatGPT on your phone for this. It's way more convenient.
One of the easiest ways AI can help is by taking stock of your ingredients and suggesting recipes. Not only does this help you make quick decisions, but it also reduces food waste because you’re using what you have instead of letting it spoil.
Example Prompt #1: "I have chicken, broccoli, and some leftover pasta. What can I make for dinner tonight?"
AI might respond with suggestions like:
Chicken Alfredo with sautéed broccoli.
A simple chicken and pasta stir-fry.
Keep iterating if you don’t like the response. Talk back to the AI and tell it what you want or if you don’t know what you want keep asking it for more options, but be nice to the AI. You will get better responses this way. Remember your Mom told you you get more bees with honey!
2: Uploading a Picture of Your Fridge or Freezer
Here’s where things get fun! I recently used ChatGPT to figure out what I could make with salmon. The best part? I didn’t type out a list of ingredients; I simply took pictures of my fridge and freezer, uploaded them to ChatGPT, and asked it for meal ideas. You can do the same, and I highly recommend trying this approach.
Example Prompt #2 (using a picture): "Here’s a picture of my fridge and freezer. What dishes can I make with salmon and the ingredients shown?"
In the video linked in this section, you’ll see exactly how I did it. I used salmon as the main ingredient and was blown away by the creative and time-saving ideas AI came up with.
